CCPM(Critical Chain Project Management)

The Critical Chain Project Management Method (CCPM) is one of the most popular strategies worldwide for managing project develop by the infamous Eliyahu M. Goldratt.
The main goal while employing this strategy is for the project to be completed on time, while the series of interrelated tasks are perceived as a single objects called “chains”. The critical path of the project ( the longest time chain of interrelated tasks) is regarded as a critical chain and the others as non-critical or supplying. In order for the project to be completed on time the critical chain must be finished on time and not each individual task which means that one common time buffer is set for the whole chain. Since this buffer is common for all tasks of the chain, each task can take time from it or if the task is finished sooner to add time to the buffer.

Each subsequent task in the chain starts immediately after the completion of the previous task, without waiting for a specific start time. The use of the buffer is completely normal and does not indicate that a task is delayed. The important aspect is whether the entire chain is moving on schedule, which is the main advantage of this method. It provides a clear and accurate picture of how the project is progressing in relation to the deadline.

The Critical Chain Method is recognized as the only method in recent decades that allows for a significant reduction in project execution time by tens of percentages, while simultaneously increasing the chances of completing it on time.
